US Ambassador to Mexico Quits

US Ambassador to Mexico Carlos Pasqual resigned his post over the weekend after Wikileaks released a cable that questioned how Mexico coordinates efforts against drug traffickers. In the cable, Pasqual questioned whether Mexico was working seriously enough to prevent drug smuggling into the U.S. The cable portrayed Mexican officials as baffled on how to deal with the problem, saying that they were overly reliant on American help.

In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that she appreciated Pascual's decision, which was was "based upon his personal desire to ensure the strong relationship between” the U.S. and Mexico.
