Netanyahu Wants to Keep Jordan Valley

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (Likud) said Tuesday that any future political agreement with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority must allow the IDF to remain on the border with Jordan.

"It is Israel's security border," he said. "Missile smuggling is prevented here. Especially considering the unrest in the region, the IDF must remain spread out across the border."

Netanyahu, who was touring Jordan Valley with Central Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrahi, added that "we are in a world that is in turmoil. There is a political and security earthquake, and its end is not in sight."
