The Binyamin and Samaria Residents' Council said that the government's announcement earlier Monday that it would demolish many structures in new Jewish communities Judea and Samaria by the end of the year was “a slap in the face of the national camp. While with one hand the Prime Minister chokes off settlement by not allowing new homes to be built, with the other he wields an axe on existing homes. It is sad to see the heads of the Likud stand silent against the traitorous behavior of Binyamin Netanyahu,” the groups said in a statement.
Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, top government officials Zvi Hauser and Eitan Broshi told the High Court earlier Monday that Netanyahu was “committed” to removing structures built on private land without a permit in Judea and Samaria by the end of the year. The declaration was made in response to a lawsuit by Peace Now demanding that the structures be demolished. The lawsuit was directed mostly at the new communities in Judea and Samaria, including Maale Rehavam, Givat Assaf, Givat Haro'eh, and others.
