Crossings from the Palestinian Authority (PA) into other parts of Israel were reinforced Sunday, after chickens died from the H5N1 avian flu virus in a coop in Silat Ach-Chartia, next to the Samarian PA city of Jenin. Authorities are trying to prevent the smuggling of fowl or eggs from that area.
Manager Michel Blaish of the veterinary services told Kol Yisrael government radio that there were no signs of the disease in Israeli flocks. He added that there were no Israeli chicken farms within a three-kilometer radius of the center of the PA outbreak.
