Director-General Amos Lasker of the Israel Electric Company sent an urgent request Thursday to Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan to use backup fuels such as diesel out of concern that there won't be any natural gas to power the utility's power plants this weekend.
The Noble energy company has announced that it must interrupt its supply in order to upgrade its systems to bring another pump online to guarantee a supply of gas. The electric company has asked Noble to delay the upgrade three times before because of the cutoff of gas from Egypt, but says it cannot put Noble off any more.
