The Tel Aviv district police said Sunday that they were willing to allow a right-wing march in the city of Jaffa but insisted on toning it down and said it would not be allowed on Yefet Street, citing the potential for a counter-demonstration by area Arabs. The decision was made after the marchers petitioned the Supreme Court against the police department's preliminary refusal to allow the procession.
The marchers said they would not withdraw their petition and demanded to be allowed to march on their originally requested route. The activists issued a statement that said, "The police gave in to the mob. It's amazing that this is the same police that lets the Arabs demonstrate freely throughout Jaffa."
