Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of the United States expressed support Sunday for the provisional government established by opponents of Libyan leader Muamar Qaddafi. En route to a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council on the matter, Clinton said the U.S. is ready to provide any assistance asked of it, but said that no more blood should be shed in bringing down the Qadaffi regime.
Senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman echoed the secretary's sentiment. Interviewed by the Cable News Network, Lieberman said the assistance should include humanitarian aid and weapons.
