Oman, an oil-rich Gulf principality, became the latest Arab country to experience the wave of unrest in the Arab world on Sunday. Police fired tear gas at hundreds of stone-throwing demonstrators who were demanding a change of government. Protests were taking place in the industrial city of Sohar, and in the southern town of Salalah. This was the second day of major protests in the country, reports said. Two people were killed and eight people were injured in Sunday's protests, reports said.

Protesters are demanding more jobs, higher salaries, and a democratic government. The Oman government recently appointed a new set of ministers and increased the basic monthly wage for workers.
