Egypt on Thursday confirmed that there had been an assassination attempt on Omar Suleiman, who had been appointed Vice-President by deposed Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-gheit said Thursday that the attempt to kill Suleiman had taken place last week, confirming statements by other Egyptian officials earlier Thursday. Suleiman was not injured, Abul-gheit said, but one of his bodyguard's was killed in the attack.
The assassination attempt reportedly occured on February 4, a week before Mubarak resigned.
