French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero reported Monday that Egypt had requested the government in Paris to freeze the assets of senior members of the regime of ousted president Hosni Mubarak. Valero said Egypt requested that the assets of Mubarak himself not be frozen.
An American government source said that the United States Treasury is examining a similar request.
