Two more American policy makers have come out for Jonathan Pollard's release from prison. Bernard Nussbaum, a White House advisor for former President Bill Clinton and Philip Heymann, former deputy Attorney General have each send a letter to President Barack Obama calling for Pollard to be set free.

Heymann specifically mentioned a confidential letter that Secretary

of Defense Casper Weinberger gave to Pollard’s judge just before sentencing that resulted in Pollard being given life in prison in solitary confinement. The letters argue that Pollard’s crime of passing classified information to Israel did not deserve such a harsh sentence. Pollard has been serving time in a medium security prison since 1987.
