The situation in Egypt may have a negative impact on Gaza. The Hamas government has limited the media reports of the violence in an attempt to instill calm. Deputy Minister of the Economy Ibrahim Jaber informed residents that as of now there is no fuel shortage in Gaza. "The situation in the Gaza Strip has not changed," he stated. Many of the secret tunnels Gazans have dug into Egypt to smuggle in supplies may now be halted by the newly mobilized Egyptian soldiers.
In the Gazan city of Rafah, Bedouin Gazans blew up the side of a building near the border of Egypt. Hamas security forces closed the hole to prevent Egyptians from coming in and to prevent Gazans from getting out.
