Miqati: I'm My Own Man, Not Hizbullah's

In his first interview as Lebanon's Prime Minister-designate, Najib Miqati said that while he agreed with much of Hizbullah's “resistance platform,” he was not committed to supporting them on any specific issue. He said that Hizbullah's support of him was “natural,” but that “I have not committed to any political position held by the group, except for protecting the national resistance.”

Miqati, a billionaire Sunni Muslim who was elected to the Lebanese parliament as an independent, said he had no problem being the favorite of Lebanon's Shi'ite population. “I accept support from everyone, and I only wish the other groups would have supported me as well,” he said.
