The official value of the shekel dropped between one and almost two percent against most of the currencies on the Bank of Israel's foreign exchange list on Thursday. At the high end was the Swiss frank, which gained 1.913 percent in value to NIS 3.7674.
The United States dollar was fixed at 3,599 shekels, up 1.552 percent from Wednesday, while the Euro rose 1.828 percent to NIS 4.8587. The pound sterling was set at 5.7543 shekels, up 1.628 percent.
The decline was attributed to concern over the effect of a newly-announced regulation by the bank, requiring the reporting of exchanges and forwarding of more than $10 million in a single day.
