Intellectuals to PM: Fire Rabbis
In a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu over the weekend, some 30 Israeli intellectuals, including ten winners of the Israel Prize, called for the firing of hundreds of city rabbis who signed a letter several weeks ago calling for Jews not to sell or rent homes to non-Jews. The intellectuals said that the rabbis were responsible for a recent spate of racist activity in Israel against foreigners and Arabs. The letter adds that if Netanyahu cannot control racism, he should resign his post.
In an interview, Israel Prize winner Professor Gabi Salomon said that the signers of the letter were worried about the possibility of a “conspiracy” that was being organized by the rabbis.
