A spokesperson for Yeshivat Ateret Cohanim on Sunday condemned threats by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat to close down the Beit Yehonatan building in the Kfar Shiloach neighborhood. Barkat said that if attempts were made to evict a family of Arab squatters in a building owned by Ateret Cohanim, he would move to shutter Beit Yehonatan.

“We were shocked to hear about the strange connection Barkat made between the enforcement of a civil order, to which all parties agreed, to restore an ancient synagogue in Kfar Shiloach, with an order to seal Beit Yehonatan – one of thousands of such orders to seal buildings,” the spokesperson said.
