The government authorized the creation of a closed area in the Negev to temporarily settle illegal aliens at its Sunday cabinet meeting. The area will be used to house illegal aliens who infiltrate Israel from Africa. The illegal aliens will be fed and receive social services in the area until they are deported to their home countries. Officials expect to house some 10,000 aliens there. Work on building facilities in the area will begin immediately, officials said.
Speaking at the cabinet meeting earlier, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called the wave of illegal immigrants sweeping into Israel a threat to Israelis. “They have a negative impact on Israeli society and they must be stopped,” Netanyahu said.
