Dutch authorities issued an international arrest warrant Thursday for 88-year-old Klaas Faber, who has been living in Germany since escaping from a prison in the Netherlands 58 years ago. Faber was sentenced to life in prison in connection with the deaths of 22 Jews, people who assisted them, and other opponents of the Nazis at the Westerbork concentration camp during the Holocaust.
The British tabloid, the Sun, traced him to Bavaria during the summer, but German authorities said they would not arrest him unless asked to by Holland. He is being sought under a new European warrant system which was not in use at the time previous extradition requests were denied.
