IDF Uses Facebook to Fight Female Draft Dodgers

The IDF has begun to employ private detectives who search Facebook pages to track down female draft evaders who claim exemption on religious grounds. According to Israeli media, the detectives search for pictures online which contradict claims by the girls that they lead a religious lifestyle.

All Israeli women are required by law to serve two years in the IDF. Religious girls are exempt but usually serve a year or two of national service, while Haredi religious women do neither. Most Zionist and Haredi rabbis strongly oppose women serving in the army.
