Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with US Senator Joe Lieberman on Thursday in Tel Aviv.
During the meeting, Netanyahu told Lieberman that Israel "wants to advance direct and serious negotiations with the Palestinian Authority and at the same time promote a regional peace arrangement with other countries in the Arab world. In order to achieve this we must overcome the obstacle which the PA has placed on negotiations, which is not substantial as construction in Judea and Samaria will not affect the peace process. It is important to focus on the really important issues in order to achieve peace."
Netanyahu added: "As long as the Arabs think they has the option of moving unilaterally with the UN Security Council they will avoid seriously advancing the direct negotiations. The international community must clarify to the Arabs that direction negotiations are the only means by which to achieve genuine peace."
