Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin told an international delegation of elder statesman headed by former presidents Jimmy Carter of the United States and Mary Robinson of Ireland Thursday that their meetings with Hamas leaders is viewed by Israelis as support for the terrorist group and encouragement of terror. The Elders, as the delgation is called, has met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Damascus.
During a meeting in Rivlin's office, the two denied the label. Carter said their main goal was to bring peace to the area so they meet with everyone involved. He added that they listen and don't support.
