Chief Rabbinate Creates Conversion Committee

The Chief Rabbinical Council decided on Thursday to appoint a committee to examine procedures for conversions sanctioned by the government and those taking place in the framework of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Both sets of conversions have been called into question recently.

The five-rabbi panel is scheduled to report in four months to Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar, who oversees conversions, and to Chief IDF Rabbi Rafi Peretz.
