A number of Knesset members, rabbis and other public figures have demanded that Attorney General Yehudah Weinstein initiate a retroactive rehabilitation for Margalit Har-Shefi, who was sentenced to nine months in prison for not preventing the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995, according to a Friday morning report by the Yediot Acharonot daily. In a letter to Weinstein, the backers of the initiative noted the words of former Shabak Israel Security Agency heads Carmi Gilon and Ami Ayalon that Har-Shefi was not aware of the plans of convicted assassin Yigal Amir.

State Prosecutor Moshe Lador will apparently handle matter. The attorney general disqualified himself because of contacts he had with Har-Shefi's family when he was in private practice. Har-Shefi served half of her sentence before she was given a pardon by then-president Moshe Katzav.
