Manny Schwartz, a long-time friend of the family of Shmuel Tuboul, who was stabbed to death Sunday in Uman in the Ukraine, told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service that even if the Ukrainian government tries to dismiss the stabbing as part of a local fracas, Tobol was killed only because he was a Jew.

Schwartz said Tuboul had the clear appearance of a Jew with a big kippah (skull cap), long sidelocks and a beard. He added that the murder occured at the height of the observance of the 200th anniversary of the death of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev, who is buried in Uman. While getting drinks for the participants from the family's store, youngsters started throwing rocks at Tuboul's car. Thinking it was a theft attempt,Tuboul offered them money but it didn't help. He tried to drive them away but one of them stabbed him twice, including once in the heart.
