Opposition groups are expected to mount a major challenge to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in tight nationwide elections today. The opposition coalition group, the Table for Democratic Unity (MUD), believes it could even wrest control of the 165 seat parliament after boycotting the elections in 2005. While Chavez is personally popular, residents of the country complain about crime and Venezuela's 30% inflation rate.
