Earthquake Hits Peru

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 was reported near central Peru's coast.

The US Geological Survey says the temblor hit at 3 a.m. (0800 GMT) Wednesday about 15 kilometers northeast of Chincha Alta, and its depth was 48 kilometers.
