Court: Yes to Rambam Gate Bridge, No to Bigger Plaza

Jerusalem District Court Judge Musia Arad ruled Monday that a new bridge could be built from the Western Wall Plaza to the Rambam or Mughrabi Gate to the Temple Mount. She ruled against plans for expanding the plaza.

Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz of the Western Wall and Holy Places expressed sadness and frustration at the decision, saying it turned the limited space for women at the Western Wall a permanent situation. He called on the municipality and the regional planning council to create a comprehensive plan to improve accessibility and physical conditions at the plaza, and noted that the matter has not been addressed by an architect in an appropriate way since the Old City was liberated in 1967.
