Protesters Urge Ministers Not to Fold on Freeze

Dozens of residents of towns in Judea and Samaria on Tuesday demonstrated outside the offices of ministers Gideon Sa'ar, Avigdor Lieberman, and Ariel Attias, asking them to ensure that the building freeze in Judea and Samaria is not renewed. The protesters wore masks with photos of Binyamin Netanyahu, warning the ministers that the result of the negotiations under the current administration was likely to be similar to what happened with former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who also started out as a right-winger – and in the end threw 10,000 Jews out of their homes in Gaza and northern Samaria.

Benny Katsover, head of the Samaria Residents' Council, said at the protest that ministers who in the past had presented themselves as supporters of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria now seemed to be less sure of themselves. “We believe that Netanyahu plans to pull off a major swindle, continuing the freeze outside the settlement blocs. Netanyahu would then be effectively declaring that the 120,000 Jews living outside the blocs are set to be thrown out of their homes. If this happens, it will be the end of Netanyahu's political career, as well as the careers of those who support him,” Katsover said.
