In a statement on the OECD report issued Tuesday that showed that Israel's teachers were among the poorest paid among OECD member nations, the Teachers' Union said that Israel was in great need of educational reform. Yossi Wasserman, chairman of the Union, said that the statistics, reflecting the situation in the 2007-8 school year, “show why the Union pushed so hard at that time for reforms in the educational system, and why the Ofek reform plan to professionalize teaching is so necessary.”
