Eight illegally-built homes in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City face demolition orders despite fines paid by their owners, as well as efforts to follow the instructions of authorities.
Interviewed on Arutz Sheva's Hebrew journal, attorney Roni Dover, who represents the homeowners, said one of the problems was that there was no city building plan for the area where the homes were built. The residents went through the expense of drawing up their own plans, only to have them rejected by the regional planning commission for lack of a city plan. In the meanwhile, the city has started work on a building plan, but Dover said the planning commission said there was no reason to accept his application to suspend the orders pending completion of the plan, which is expected in six months.
