Germany: Restored Synagogue Dedicated
A synagogue in the German city of Mainz (also known in Hebrew as Magentza) that was built on the ruins of a synagogue that was destroyed during the Holocaust, was dedicated in a special ceremony in the presence of German President Christian Wulff, the region's Prime Minister, Israel's ambassador to Germany Yoram Ben-Zeev, the heads of the Jewish communities in Germany and guests from around the world.
As Mainz is a twin city of Haifa, also in attendance were Haifa city council member Shay Blumenthal, as well as Rafi Shatil, whose grandfather served as rabbi of the congregation until the Holocaust.
