Industry and Trade Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer announced on Monday that Avi Hasson is his candidate for Israel's chief scientist. Following a consultation with Minister of Science Daniel Hershkowitz, the appointment will have to be approved by of a committee of experts and then by the government.

Hasson is expected to assume office in early 2011.
