Dr. Liora Meridor announced on Monday that she was resigning as chairwoman of Tel Aviv University's governing council. Her resignation will take effect at the end of the month, only a year-and-a-half after she took over the position.

Senior higher-education officials claim that Meridor is stepping down against the backdrop of criticism of the board's decision to fire former president Tzvi Galil.
