Director-General Nachi Eyal called on the government Monday to name a ministerial staff to investigate the conduct of Defense Minister Ehud Barak in the changing of chiefs of staff for the Israel Defense Forces. He said the probe should start with the decision to choose a new chief of staff half a year ahead of time and extend to the appointment of a ministry committee to look into the "Galant Document," which purportedly advised the eventual choice for the job to use a smear campaign to get the office.
Eyal said the committee's conclusions had already been reached and that the panel had been disqualified by the attorney general. He added that Barak had decided to disrupt the upper echelons of the military and said there was a doubt if Barak was fit for the position.
