Defense Minister Ehud Barak has suspended his ministry's probe of a document that purportedly advised Southern Commander Yoav Galant to use a smear campaign to become the next chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces. Barak was responding to a request by Attorney General Yehudah Weinstein, who cited an unfinished police investigation into the case.
Under the attorney general's request, the Defense Ministry committee may hold internal consultations but may not summon witnesses or ask for material evidence.
