Noam and Aviva Shalit, the parents of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, rejected a suggestion by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday that they leave the protest tent near the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Jerusalem, spend the Jewish New Year at home "in order to garner strength," and return afterwards.
Noam said that during the morning meeting with Netanyahu, he demanded that the German mediator be returned to the area and that the price demanded by Hamas and its allies be met before it's too late. He added that all the "bargaining cards" had been freed and there has been no sign of life since the release of the video of Gilad, about a year ago. Also present at the two-hour session was Hagai Hadas, who updated the Shalits on the various efforts on behalf of their son, which the prime minister said would not stop.
