The State Attorney's Office is denying a report that a representative of the state claimed in the Supreme Court that conversions to Judaism executed in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are not valid under law.
Reacting to the denied report, Chairman Zevulun Orlev of the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home-New National Religious Party) Knesset faction said, "Service in the IDF to protect the state of Israel and joining the Jewish people via the conversion of the military rabbinate are the most exalted Jewish acts and anyone who questions that makes himself one who brings trouble to Israel." MK Orlev called on legal authorities, the chief rabbinate of Israel and the chief military rabbinate to resolve the matter immediately and avoid any "earthquakes" that would harm the two rabbinates.
