Workers have begun removing the notes placed by worshippers in the crevices of the Western Wall (Kotel). The notes will be placed in a geniza during the "ten days of repentance" between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur.
Western Wall notes are cleaned out twice a year, once before Rosh HaShana and the second time prior to the Passover holiday in the spring. The work is being supervised by the Rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.
