Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Sunday that he is worried about the new "dangers" in the Persian Gulf, a clear allusion to Iran and its nuclear program.

Mubarak made the comments during a dinner held in Cairo to celebrate Ramadan. "The Muslim world faces many challenges and difficulties. We must beware of the dangers in the Gulf area, which threaten the stability of the region," he said.

Egypt canceled last weekend's visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Mottaki to Cairo, following his statements against Mubarak's involvement in direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
