A report Sunday said that Iran was paying Taliban fighters in Afghanistan for every American soldier they killed. Depending on the rank of the killed soldier and the circumstances of his death, the fighters can “earn” between $1,000 and $6,000 for each “kill.”

The report in the London Sunday Times said that the money reached the Taliban via phony Iranian companies. The report added that Iran sponsored training camps for the Taliban, and that although in the past there had been tension between Shi'ite Iran and the Sunni Taliban, “we both have the same goal – to kill Americans,” an Iranian official was quoted as telling the Times.
