Israel beat Malta 3-1 Thursday evening to open its campaign to reach the Euro 2012 soccer finals hosted by Poland and the Ukraine. Yossi Benayoun, who has scored a goal for Chelsea in the British Premier League, scored all three goals.

The other teams in Group F of the nine-group qualifying round open play on Friday.
