Renovation Work Starts on Uman Synagogue

With less than a week to go before Rosh Hashanah and the arrival of tens of thousands of visitors to Uman in the Ukraine, workers have removed the ceiling to the beit midrash (study hall) of "the Kloyz" central synagogue as part of renovations intended to add hundreds of seats to the synagogue.

The work is proceeding despite warnings from contractors that there is not enough time to complete the work. Rainy weather is another threat.
