A poll by the Index Mastercard group indicates that Israelis prefer real estate as an investment over nearly other investment channel. Among the many questions posed, respondents were asked what they would do if they were given a sum of NIS 500,000. More than a third – 37% - said they would use it to buy property, while 25% said they would save it. The balance gave various other responses, such as paying off bills or investing in the stock market.
The poll also showed that 57% of Israelis over age 50, and 68% overall of those with at least middle incomes, invest their money. Israelis 50 and over prefer the stock market for investments, while those 30 to 49 prefer long-term bank deposits.
