PA Sharply Criticizes US Invitation
The Palestinian Authority sharply criticized the U.S. invitation to the PA and Israel to resume direct negotiations, issued Friday. In a statement, the PA said that the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had issued an invitation that she knew would please Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. No specific issues up for discussion were mentioned, and Clinton said that the talks would be without preconditions, complained top Fatah official Azam Alahmed, a close associate of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.
Alahmed said that the PA sees the Quartet statement on the talks – which specifically mentions talks that will result in a Palestinian states – as its guiding document, and if the U.S. fails to follow that outline, “we will have nothing more than an enjoyable dinner at the White House,” he said.
