Reports Tuesday said that the reason police told a Petach Tikvah court on Sunday that they had no need to see the “Gallant document” was because they had already received a copy of it – from the IDF. According to the report, IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi had been aware of the document weeks ago, and had received a copy of it – which his office passed to police. Police would not confirm or deny the report.
Earlier, the IDF Attorney's Office expressed shock at a report that said that Ashkenazi had informed the office of the existence of the document. “If the Chief of Staff knew about the document, and informed the Attorney's Office, and nothing was done for three weeks, we are talking about a political earthquake,” a source in the Attorney's Office told Army Radio.
