American Detained in Turkey

An American activist and freelance journalist was detained in Turkey and is being held in a predominantly Kurdish city in the country’s southeast.

Jake Hess has been charged with taking orders from a terrorist organization. The prosecution called for his immediate deportation from Turkey.

US diplomats said that Hess rejected their offer of assistance. Hess said that the US is “an imperialist country” and that he disagrees with its policy towards Turkey and the Kurds and thus rejected the diplomats’ help.
