The Beit Theresienstadt Martyrs Remembrance Association is holding a concert at 11:00 Friday morning at the Wolyn Jewry Hall at 10 Corazin Street in Givatayim, as the concluding event of its 10th annual seminar on performance of music composed and played in theTheresienstadt concentration camp and music banned by the Nazis.
Following a tribute to Professor David Bloch, a researcher of music composed in Theresienstadt, members the Meitar Ensemble will perform new versions of Viktor Ullmann's "The Lay of the Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke" for chamber ensemble and narrator, and Gideon Klein's string trio. The program concludes with moderator Michael Wolpe's "From the South", inspired by the poems of Ava Kovner.
Ullman is considered the greatest composer of the Holocaust era. The work to be performed was unfinished at the time of his death. Participants in the seminar worked at editing and orchestrating the piece, which was based on the texts of German poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
