The dedication of a Torah scroll in memory of Yisrael "Izzy" Kaplan, leading land of Israel activist in Toronto. is scheduled for the Samarian community of Kiriat Natafim Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Nofei Hadar synagogue. Preliminary activities begin at 5:00 p.m.

Kaplan, the owner of Israel's Judaica, died of cancer in March at the age of 63. The Canadian Jewish News cited Mizrachi Canada president, Jerry Rosenfield, a longtime friend of Kaplan’s as saying Kaplan probably visited Sderot and the Jewish communities in Gaza more often than many Israelis. He was also cited for philanthropy to individual Jews and Jewish causes domestically.
