In what has been called France’s worst recorded case of infanticide, a 47-year-old woman confessed to suffocating eight new-born children and hiding her babies' bodies.

The woman and her husband were detained on Tuesday after the bodies were found at two homes in Villers-au-Tertre, a village 120 miles north of Paris. French authorities have placed the mother under formal investigation for the murder of minors.
