Defense Minister Ehud Barak welcomed Thursday's conditional decision by the Arab league to endorse direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Barak said in Washington, DC that only direct negotiations will allow a peace agreement and the solution of two states for two peoples. He expressed hope that the PA would understand his often-expressed contention that the negotiations will demand difficult and courageous decisions on both sides.
